As we countdown the weeks leading to American Alliance Museum’s 2022 Meeting & MuseumExpo, we’ve assembled a list of a few top picks, eats, and sights in Boston! Cuseum was founded in Beantown and we hope you enjoy our fun little list of local food, museums, and culture, all of which make us proud to call Boston our hometown.
With AAM being hosted at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center this year, we’ve focused most of this list around Boston’s Seaport neighborhood and spots that are no more than 15 minutes by foot. We hope you enjoy it!
Get a taste of color with Okuda’s Public Art in the Seaport
Contemporary Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel’s beautiful sculpture work perfectly enhances Boston’s Seaport with a vibrant splash of color. His 8- to 12- foot sculptures line Seaport Boulevard, making exploring the city by foot that much more enjoyable! Each sculpture is labeled with artist information, but if you want to learn even more, check out Seaport’s web mobile app, made in partnership with Cuseum!
Relive history at the Tea Party Museum
Are you interested in American history? Ever wanted to throw tea into Boston Harbor like it’s 1773? Then, the Tea Party Museum is the place for you! With live actors, interactive exhibits, and replicas of the merchant ships that once docked in Boston's harbor, you can relive this historical event and learn about the journey leading to America's independence from British rule. Huzzah!
Take the water taxi to East Boston for a great view of the skyline
Boston is the only US state capital located on the ocean, and it's truly a joy to hop aboard a water taxi to overcome the city’s notorious traffic, bridges, and tunnels. From various parts of Boston’s Seaport, you can take a water taxi to different parts of the city. Our recommendation is to take the water taxi to Piers Park in East Boston for one of the best views of the city skyline, a short walk to ICA’s Watershed, and a locally produced cider at Downeast.
Go larger-than-life with Frank Stella’s murals
There is a decent chance that you’ve come across the work of famed artist Frank Stella in many of the world’s great modern and contemporary art museums. One of Stella's newest and largest reproductions can be found a short walk down Seaport Boulevard, a short walk from the convention center.
Stroll the Rose Kennedy Greenway
Decades ago, a multi-lane highway cut through downtown Boston, separating vital parts of the city from the waterfront. Fast-forward to today, the highway was put underground and a new urban park emerged in its place. “The Greenway is a contemporary public park in the heart of Boston, where millions of visitors come to gather, unwind, and explore.” You will encounter loads of public art and more in this 1.5-mile-long urban oasis.
Go art museum-hopping
If you have time and are open to venturing outside of the Seaport, you can’t miss the Museum of the Fine Arts, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Harvard Art Museums, and MIT List. The MFA will be hosting the highly anticipated exhibit of Philip Guston’s work in Philip Guston Now, which is not to be missed. And, if you’re looking to be temporarily transported to Venice, immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring courtyard of the Venetian palazzo of the Gardner Museum.
Bonus Points:
⭐ Savor a cannoli at Mike's Pastry.
⭐ Take a selfie with Edgar Allan Poe.
⭐ Set up your style at Bodega.
These are just a few fun places to check out in Boston! We hope you have a great time at AAM!
